Firefighters On Scene At Large Wayne County Fire

DUDLEY – Wayne County 911 received a call at 1:27 am Saturday reporting a large fire at National Salvage and Service Corp, located at 430 Old Mt Olive Hwy in Dudley. The site is a large industrial facility that houses railroad ties. A passerby saw the fire and told dispatchers the flames were three stories high.

At last report, there were 17 fire departments on the scene, including Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Goldsboro Fire Department, and numerous volunteer departments. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Wayne County EMS, NC State Highway Patrol, NC Department of Transportation, and Red Cross are on the scene assisting with the response. Duke Energy and Tri-County Electric have responded to shut off power to the facility, and all surrounding water districts were notified due to increased water needs for firefighting efforts. Notice was provided to CSX to re-route trains during the response.

Investigators will be on the scene to determine the cause of the fire, but there is no cause known at this time. There are no injuries to report at this time, and no evacuations have taken place in the area.
