MEADOW – Firefighters rushed into a burning doublewide mobile home Friday morning to rescue an elderly woman who could not get out. Around 11:09am, the Meadow Fire Department was dispatched to a grass fire at 119 Denn Field Lane, off Holly Grove Road.
Due to the dry grass and wind, officials said the fire quickly spread to an adjacent doublewide at 123 Denn Field Lane, burning around a camper, several vehicles, and the doublewide.
Firemen arrived on the scene and discovered the grass fire was now a structure fire. They entered the burning home and rescued the elderly victim from a back bedroom. The woman and a second person were evaluated at the scene by Johnston County EMS but were not transported to the hospital.
A total of four adults lived at the address. The Red Cross responded to the scene to help the victims.
Meadow Fire was assisted by the Blackman’s Crossroads, Plain View and Newton Grove Fire Departments. Johnston County Emergency Management and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office also responded.
Fire Marshal Ryan Parker said the fire started as a result of a neighbor burning household trash in a barrel.
FYI….it is against county policy to burn trash
