Firefighters helped rescue two men trapped high above the ground Friday morning. The two workers were installing shingles on the steeple of Evans Chapel Church on Second Avenue in Smithfield.
Around 10:00am the hydraulic lift on their truck malfunctioned leaving the two workers trapped in the air. A member of the church was on the ground watching the repair work. They called 911 and within minutes the Smithfield Fire Department arrived on the scene with their 75 foot ladder truck and helped the men to the ground.
Firefighters said the workers were lucky a backup safety mechanism on the lift kept it from collapsing to the ground when the hydraulics malfunctioned.
Johnston County EMS stood by at the scene until the men were safely on the ground. JoCoReport.com Photos
