To coincide with the week of 9/11, Johnston County Commissioners have proclaimed September 10-16th as Firefighters Week in Johnston County.
Since 2011, firefighters across North Carolina have been recognized during the week containing 9/11 for protecting the lives and property of citizens, responding to emergencies without hesitation, and protecting their communities.
Johnston County has 24 fire departments responding out of 30 fire stations plus 5 additional departments from neighboring counties who are contracted to provide fire protection.
There are 895 paid and volunteer firefighters in Johnston County who responded to 16,273 emergency incidents in 2016, accounting for 91,612 hours plus an additional 544,057 training hours. 2016 photo courtesy JoCoFire.com
