Former Bar Being Replaced By Auto Repair Shop

A former bar which has been out of business since the building was struck by a car several years ago will be torn down to make way for a new business.

Tuesday night, the Smithfield Town Council approved a request for an auto repair garage and tire sales business on South Brightleaf Boulevard at Wal-Pat Road.

Amalia Felix Mireles of Clayton plans to build a 2,800 square foot building with 4 garage bays and 13 parking spaces during Phase One of his new business.  Two additional phases would allow for the business to expand with a second and third building.

The Smithfield Planning Board approved the request at their November 3rd meeting.

Planning Director Paul Embler answered several questions from the council, including a requirement the parking lot must be paved and the business would not have access to Wal-Pat Road. The only entrance would be on South Brightleaf Boulevard near Kay Drive.

After the unanimous vote, Councilman Travis Scott stated, “That’s a great improvement for that site.”  JoCoReport.com Photo
