The Milwaukee Brewers have announced that former Carolina Mudcats starting pitcher Corbin Burnes was named the organization’s Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
Burnes, 22, went 5-0 over 10 starts with the Mudcats before a promotion to Double-A Biloxi on May 29. He left the Carolina League as the league leader in earned run average and fewest base runners. Burnes was also second in the league in lowest average, third in innings pitched and fourth in strikeouts before the promotion.
Overall, Burnes went 8-3 with a 1.67 ERA (145.2 IP, 27 ER) with 36 walks and 140 strikeouts in 26 starts between Class-A Advanced Carolina and Double-A Biloxi.
Burnes was selected by the Brewers in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA. The Bakersfield, CA native began the 2017 season rated as the No. 20 prospect in the Brewers system by MLB.com and the No. 24 prospect in the Milwaukee system by Baseball America.
Burnes will be presented with the award during a Brewers pre-game ceremony on Tuesday, September 26th at Miller Park.
