Moore led a distinguished life of service, according to his obituary. He owned the Selma IGA and mentored many young people who worked there over the years.
He served 60 years with the Selma Fire Department in numerous capacities including Fire Chief. He bettered his community as a council member and Mayor of Selma. Joe also served as a member of the local Board of Directors for BB&T.
Joe loved the land, especially Buffalo Ridge, his farm, and animals. As a conservationist, he put his land in trust to ensure its natural beauty would be preserved.
He was a charter member of Quail Unlimited of Johnston County and loved to quail hunt.
He was a civic leader donating his time and sitting on numerous boards.
An active member of the Selma Baptist Church, Joe filled many roles including Deacon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances. He is survived by his daughter Kim House and her husband Gary; step grandson Gary House, Jr. and step great grandson Gavin. Surviving family members are Butch Scott and wife Melinda; CW and Katie Langston and their daughter Caroline; Sandra Hassell and husband Butch; Vernie Edwards and husband Danny; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is Bobby Holloman, a loyal and trusted friend and his wife Debbie. Joe leaves behind many friends who he considered an extension of his family.
The family will receive friends at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma on Friday, Jan. 4, from 10:00AM – 11:30 AM with services following at 11:30 AM. Burial will be in Selma Memorial Gardens.
