A former English teacher was arrested today (Tuesday) on three counts of taking indecent liberties with a student. Keith Gerald Woodard III, was a former teacher at Charles B. Aycock High School.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, detectives began investigating the 32 year-old teacher in October 2019 after a former student at the school reported an inappropriate sexual relationship between herself and Woodard. The sexual relationship was reported to have occurred in February and April 2015.
Woodard was first hired in August 2012 at Charles B. Aycock High. He resigned from Wayne County Public Schools on April 9, 2020 following an extensive school system investigation.
Woodard, of LaGrange, NC, was given a $6,000 secured bond today on the three felony charges.
Wayne County Public Schools said in a statement today, “The district continuously cooperated with law enforcement throughout its investigation. It was also able to bring key information to light as part of its own internal investigation, which aided law enforcement investigators in bringing these charges.”
