Former US Senator Robert Morgan has died. Morgan was born in Lillington and served one term in the US Senate.
A highly respected Democrat, Morgan was known across the state for his excellent reputation as a trial lawyer in Harnett County.
He served in the North Carolina Senate from 1955 to 1969 before being elected as NC Attorney General, a position he held from 1969 to 1974. Morgan ran successfully for US Senate and served one term (1975-1981) before being defeated.
He later served as director of the NC State Bureau of Investigation. In 1992, he returned to Harnett County to practice law.
Morgan was 90 years old.
