Four Oaks Man Dies From Injuries Sustained In Crash

BENSON – One person died from injuries sustained in a fiery traffic accident. The single vehicle collision occurred shortly after 10:00am today (Monday) on Raleigh Road near Grace Road.

The Highway Patrol said a white van traveled off the roadway on the right, over corrected, then ran off the roadway on the left. The van slammed head on into a tree and caught fire.

Several witnesses stopped and attempted to remove the driver from the burning van but were not successful.

Fire crews arrived and extinguished the burning van, then extricated the driver who was trapped inside.

The victim, Marvin Tyrone Oates, age 52, of Four Oaks, died while being transported to the hospital.

Troopers said Oates was wearing a seat belt. Speed and alcohol are not suspected factors in the crash.
