The NC Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal single vehicle accident. It happened at 9:31pm Monday in the 8200 block of Devil’s Racetrack Road in the Bentonville community.
A 2006 Toyota Tundra pickup truck driven by 52 year-old Lopez Lofton ran off the roadway and struck a tree head on. Lofton was the only occupant in the truck. He died at the scene.
Lofton was not wearing a seat belt. Officials are looking into whether speed or alcohol played any factor in the crash.
Trooper M. Smaoksy is investigating the collision.
