Four Seniors attending Johnston County Public Schools have been named 2019 North Carolina Teaching Fellows.
The four students named 2019 NC Teaching Fellows from JCPS:
- Taylor Fipps from West Johnston High School will attend Meredith College and major in Special Education. Taylor is from Willow Springs, NC and is the daughter of Fred and Amanda Fipps
Taylor Fipps - Brittany Kennon from Smithfield-Selma High School will attend UNC-Charlotte and major in Special Education. Brittany is from Clayton, NC and is the daughter of James and Christy Kennon.
Brittany Kennon - Makayla Lewis from Cleveland High School will attend North Carolina State University and major in Agricultural Education. Makayla is from Garner, NC and is the daughter of Mike and Megan Lewis.
Makayla Lewis - Kailey Rea from North Johnston High School will attend North Carolina State University and major in Mathematics Education. Kailey is from Pine Level, NC and is the daughter of Will Rea and Karla Britt.

The North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program is a competitive, merit-based forgivable loans for service program that provides up to $4,125 a semester ($8,250 a year) for up to four years to highly-qualified students committed to teaching special education or a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) field in a North Carolina public school.
The purpose of the Teaching Fellows Program is to recruit, prepare, and support students residing in or attending institutions of higher education located in North Carolina to become highly effective STEM or special education teachers in the State’s public schools.
