Free Tax Assistance Available At Harnett County Public Library

Lillington – Harnett County residents can get their tax returns prepared free starting Wednesday, February 5th at the Harnett County Public Library, 601 S. Main Street, Lillington.

This assistance will be available every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. February 5 – April 1, with the exception of March 4th. Tax returns will be prepared and filed electronically by volunteers from the Campbell University School of Business working with the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Tax help is provided on a first come, first served basis.  No appointments are taken. The volunteers will complete most standard tax returns although there are a few forms and schedules they will not prepare.

Those seeking tax preparation services must have a photo ID (and photo ID for the spouse, if applicable), social security card (or ITIN) for each person on the tax return (including dependents), and all of the taxpayers’ tax forms.

The Library will have free Federal tax forms available.  No North Carolina state forms have been provided this year.  State tax forms can be obtained by calling the NC Department of Revenue at 1-877-252-3052 or visiting http://www.dor.state.nc.us.
