Garner Police, Garner Magnet High To Co-Host School Safety Forum

The Garner Police Department and Garner Magnet High School will co-host a Community Forum on School Safety on Monday, March 5th at 6 p.m. at South Garner High School located at 8228 Hebron Church Road.

The panel-led discussion will focus on current plans and efforts underway in Garner that will continue to make school safety the highest priority. Parents and other concerned members of the community will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on school safety issues.

Panelists will be subject matter experts on school safety. They will include Principal Carter Hillman, SAP counselor Kira Hague, Garner Police Chief Brandon Zuidema, Lt. Mike McIver and the current GMHS resource officer Chad Gorman.

Discussions will focus on strategies for parents and students to help avoid an incident, what to do in the event of an incident occurring at school, as well as the do’s and don’ts of social media in an age when social media threats are occurring much more regularly.

“We are looking forward to continuing to partner with the staff and parents of Garner Magnet High School on such an important and critical topic,” Chief Zuidema said. “This is not just a school issue; it’s a concern that affects all of us.”
