A fully loaded gasoline tanker overturned this afternoon (Friday) on US 70 in Johnston County. The accident was reported around 3:30pm in the westbound lanes of US 70 between Sadisco Road and the US 70 Clayton Bypass.
Initial reports indicate the tanker and a pickup truck collided in the westbound lanes causing the tanker to veer into the median and flip onto its side.
The tanker was carrying 8,900 gallons of gasoline. The Wilson’s Mills Fire Department responded and has contained a small leak from the tanker.
No injuries were reported but eastbound and westbound traffic are being detoured around the accident scene causing significant delays for drivers.
Multiple agencies are on the scene including Johnston County Emergency Management, NC DOT, NC Highway Patrol, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, and Johnston County EMS.
US 70 is expected to be closed for several hours until the gasoline can be removed from the tanker and the overturned truck removed from the scene.
