A handgun was found inside a goodwill donation drop off box. Sunday afternoon, an employee at Goodwill Industries was sorting through a box of items dropped off sometime earlier at 5151 NC 42 West.
The employee said they found a 9mm handgun wrapped inside a towel in the box of items.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded and took possession of the firearm. The gun had not been reported stolen.
Officials don’t know if the person who dropped off the box of items meant to donate the gun to goodwill or didn’t remember the firearm was inside. Firearms are among the items not accepted at goodwill locations.
