Gunmen Take $1 From Woman Doing Laundry

Smithfield Police are investigating an overnight robbery.   Officers were summoned to an armed robbery report on Waddell Drive off North Brightleaf Boulevard at 11:18pm.

Police said a 35 year-old woman was doing her laundry in an outbuilding behind her home when two men approached and at gunpoint demanded her money. The victim said she only had one dollar and handed the money over to the robbers.  The suspects then fled on foot.

Police Captain R. Sheppard said a Selma Police K-9 was brought to the scene but was unable to track the suspects very far due to weather conditions.  The victim described the assailants and two black males wearing all dark clothing.  One was armed with a handgun.

Captain Sheppard said the $1 bill was recovered near the scene by police.  No arrests have been made. The victim was not physically injured.
