Buies Creek – Gardner-Webb handed Campbell just its second shutout of the season to salvage a 5-0 game three win in the Big South series.
Gardner-Webb moved to 23-12 overall and 3-6 in Big South play with the win, while Campbell fell to 18-16 on the season and 5-4 in conference games. The Camels took the series opener 10-4 and clinched the set with a 17-4 win on Saturday.
Bradley Hallman (4-2) picked up the win for the Runnin’ Bulldogs, going 6 2/3 scoreless innings with a strikeout and three walks, scattering five hits.
Wil Sellers earned the save, his seventh, going 2 1/3 with three strikeouts and a hit.
Michael Horrell (3-3) was charged with the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits with eight strikeouts and a walk. Erik Dowse surrendered two unearned runs in relief on three hits with three punchouts.
Campbell stranded nine in the loss, with three of the team’s six hits coming with two out situations. The only leadoff man to reach for the Camels on the day was Matt Parrish on a hit by pitch in the fourth.
Tyler Best gave the Bulldogs their first base runner of the day with a one out double in the fourth, coming around on Paul Trick’s RBI single. Trick then scored on Danny Sullivan’s fielder’s choice, putting the Bulldogs up 2-0.
Eric Jones’ two out RBI single in the top of the seventh extended the GWU lead to 3-0, and two Campbell errors in the eighth tacked on two more runs for the Bulldogs.
Campbell left four on in scoring position in the loss, including the seventh, down 3-0, with runners on the corners.
Campbell continues its home stand April 15th-17th against Liberty.
The Camels’ April 13th and 20th games against Elon and North Carolina Central have been canceled due to schedule conflicts.
