Habitat Seeks Land Opportunities In Johnston County

RALEIGH – Habitat for Humanity of Wake County, which serves both Wake and Johnston counties, is seeking to expand the organization’s reach in Johnston County.

“We know that the Johnston County area is growing rapidly and land is at a premium,” said Patricia Burch, Habitat Wake CEO. “We don’t want Johnston County residents to be priced out of their community.”

To expand homeownership opportunities in Johnston County, Habitat Wake needs to acquire land, either by purchasing land or accepting land donations from community members. Any acreage amount is welcome, including infill lots.

Donations are tax-deductible and will provide more local families the opportunity to purchase an affordable home.

One in four families in Wake and Johnston counties is cost-burdened, meaning they pay too much of their income toward housing at the expense of other necessities like groceries, healthcare and education.

To help meet this need, Habitat Wake provides homeownership opportunities for families making less than 80 percent of the Area Median Income and preserves existing affordable homes. The organization also advocates for policy changes that increase access to housing for everyone.

Since Habitat Wake and Habitat for Humanity of Johnston County became one organization in 2018, volunteers have helped construct seven new homes in addition to the 18 existing Habitat homes already in Johnston County. A 15-home community is currently underway in Clayton.

  1. Our county and town leaders need to take a more progressive way of handling the homeless problems of our “NEW COMERS” that are so bravely crossing our southern border and answering the call of our Democrat President to come to the United States because of our open border policies. Our county and town leaders should put in place a Swatters Protection Act that would protect our New Comers and make high fines be charged to any property owner that dare to change a lock inorder to displace any of our New Comers Family. And yes lock up any Republican that should even whisper the racist words of ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!!! Vote BLUE and bring the progressive liberal goverment to save Johnston County, we need the same kind of successful social goverment as NY,CA, and Seattle Washington that makes a level playing field for all except for the knuckle draging MAGA supporters that are all going to be convicted felons.
