HARNETT COUNTY – At the July work session, Harnett County Board of Commissioners appointed Christine Wallace as the County’s Acting Tax Administrator. County Attorney Dwight Snow administered the oath of office in the Commissioners Meeting Room at the Harnett County Resource Center & Library in Lillington, and Wallace’s husband, Jason, and son, Luke, held the bible during the ceremony.
“Christine brings a wealth of knowledge to this position, having served since 1999 with County government,” stated Harnett County Board of Commissioners Chairman Lewis Weatherspoon. “The Board is confident in her abilities to lead the Tax Department and serve the citizens of Harnett County.”
Commissioners appointed Wallace as Acting Tax Administrator to fill the remainder of the term vacated by the recently retired Bill Tyson.
Tyson has served as Harnett County Tax Administrator since September 2019, recently completing a successful Revaluation of over 69,000 properties throughout Harnett County. During his tenure, the Tax Department reorganized to focus on the strengths of departmental staff, increased outreach to taxpayers, and posted year on year increases in collection percentage.
“Our Departmental goal since September 2019 has been to provide uniform and consistent property tax administration across the County, making sure to meet the requirements of the N.C. General Statutes,” stated Tyson. “Despite obstacles, including a pandemic, the dedicated and hardworking staff have continued to provide superior service to County taxpayers—I am very proud of their efforts”.
Chairman Lewis Weatherspoon thanked Bill Tyson for his service to Harnett County. “Bill has been an excellent addition to our leadership team, and the Board is appreciative of the professional manner he has served the citizens of Harnett County over these past 3 years. We wish him the best of luck in his retirement.”
Wallace is looking forward to her new role with the Tax Department. “I am honored to have this opportunity to serve the Board of Commissioners and the citizens of Harnett County as the Acting Tax Administrator,” stated Wallace. “I look forward to working collaboratively with the residents, businesses, and stakeholders to build on the great work that is already underway and continuing operations that are transparent, responsive, and focused on service.”
Wallace has over 20 years of experience working for Harnett County government, serving as a Tax Assistant/Paralegal, GIS Technician, and Real Property Appraiser. In August 2021, she was named Assistant Tax Administrator.
Wallace is a 22-year member of the North Carolina Property Mappers Association and a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers. She also holds her Real Property Appraiser certification from the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
