The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting over a thousand workers in Harnett County for temporary jobs in advance of the 2020 Census. The Atlanta Regional Census Center reports there are 1,176 employment opportunities in Harnett County. Currently, only 50% of those positions are filled.
Harnett County encourages interested individuals to apply for Census jobs during a special NC Works Bus Tour on Monday, February 10, from noon to 6 p.m. in the Harnett County Government Complex Health parking lot, located 307 W Cornelius Harnett Blvd, Lillington, NC 27546. The bus is equipped with 10 computers so individuals can apply for jobs on the spot and receive information about how to be counted for the Census.
The Census count is used to determine how much federal funding goes to communities and states and determines how many representatives in the U.S. House of Representatives each state gets.
Jobseekers also have the option to apply online. The 2020 Census Jobs website allows applicants to apply for a range of positions, including recruiting assistants, office operations supervisors, clerks, census field supervisors and census takers. The positions offer flexible work hours, including daytime, evenings and weekends with a pay rate starting at $14.50/hour.
To be eligible for a 2020 Census job, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number and pass a background check.
