Harnett Schools Placed On Lockdown During Search For Home Invasion Suspects

Two Harnett County schools were placed on lockdown Friday following a home invasion.

Around 11:00am this morning, Harnett County deputies received a report of a home invasion on Marks Road.  The resident said two masked suspects kicked in his front door. One of the suspects was armed with a long gun.

The resident shot at the suspect inside his home.  The suspect fled out the door and fired a shot into the home grazing the homeowner in the leg.  The homeowner was treated at the scene by EMS but did not require hospitalization.

The two suspects, both wearing camouflage coats, fled on foot.   A handgun was recovered from the front yard of the home.

Johnsonville Elementary and Benhaven Elementary schools are not in close proximity to the home invasion but as a precaution both were placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution.  The lockdown was lifted about two hours later, however, a Harnett County deputy will remains at each school until classes dismissed for the day.

Anyone with information about the home invasion and shooting on Marks Road is asked to contact the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office at 910-893-9111
