ERWIN – An early morning structure fire on Friday, May 5, claimed the life of a well-known Erwin woman.
Erwin Fire Department & Rescue Squad was dispatched to 144 Red Hill Church Road at 1:01 a.m. in reference to a structure fire called in to 911 by a person passing the scene.
Fire Chief Ricky Blackmon was the first fire officer on the scene and reported very heavy fire conditions upon his arrival.
The first fire engine arrived at 1:07 a.m. and immediately began fire suppression efforts.
A man, who lives at the home, was able to escape through a window. His wife died in the fire.
A representative of the American Red Cross shared that the woman who perished is Ann Vann.
Friends who knew Vann say she was a beautician at Studio One Salon and Day Spa in Erwin.
Erwin firefighters were assisted by mutual aid from Coats-Grove Fire, Dunn Emergency Services, West Area Fire (Cumberland County), Erwin Police Department, Harnett County Sheriff’s Office and 911 Communications.
This is an on-going investigation.
From the time the call was put in to 911 and the time the 1st Engine arrived, that is what I call a super quick response. You guys did a great job and even though a person passed, you did everything you could. This coming from a former FDNY. For the family of the woman, prayers and peace for all of you.
