Hay Bales Fuel Grass Fire

CORINTH HOLDERS — Firefighters quickly contained a grass fire Wednesday afternoon that broke out near the Corinth Holders Fire station in northern Johnston County.

The fire was reported around 4:40 p.m. after a passer-by spotted smoke and flames in the backyard of an abandoned home near the corner of Lake Wendell Road and Denton Lane.

Fueled by dry grass and scattered hay bales, the blaze spread rapidly across the property before firefighters arrived. Corinth Holders Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control before it threatened nearby structures.

Firefighters remained on scene extinguishing several stubborn hay bales that continued to smolder after the main fire was contained.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known and remains under investigation.
