Head-On Collision Claims Life Of Elderly Driver

FOUR OAKS – An elderly driver died from injuries sustained in a head-on collision Sunday evening in the Bentonville community, south of Four Oaks.

The accident was reported at 6:13pm on Harper House Road at Newton Grove Road, not far from the Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site.

According to the State Highway Patrol, David Carroll Raynor, age 90, of Mount Olive Highway, Newton Grove was traveling westbound on Harper House Road in a white 2018 Ford Fusion passenger car. Raynor was preparing to make a left turn onto Newton Grove Road and crossed the centerline before making it to the t-intersection.

The car collided head-on with a blue 2008 Lincoln SUV traveling eastbound on Harper House Road and operated by Rico Jovan Moses, age 47, of Patrick Street, Goldsboro.

Mr. Carroll died at the scene. His wife, a front seat passenger, Erma Raynor, age 85, was rushed to WakeMed with serious injuries.

Moses was transported to WakeMed with minor injuries. He was the only occupant in the Lincoln.

The Highway Patrol said speed and alcohol are not suspected.

No charges were filed.
