SMITHFIELD – The Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation is thrilled to invite the community to a special celebration marking the completion of the Heart of Smithfield mural on October 30th at 4 PM. The mural is the third installment in renowned artist Max Dowdle’s Legacy NC 100 Murals in 100 Communities and has been made possible thanks to a grant from the Johnston County Arts Council.
The dedication ceremony will take place at the Smithfield Town Hall, where the community will gather to honor the artistic contribution that enhances the vibrancy of our downtown area. Following the presentation, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:15 PM at the mural site, located on North 4th Street at Market Street.
After the dedication, guests are invited to a reception at Town Hall to meet Max Dowdle and learn more about the inspiration behind the mural and his artistic journey.

Wow this is a beautiful mural! If you haven’t seen it check it out! It’s a wonderful work of art that honors African-Americans in our community.
If you can go to the dedication and thank this artist.
But look at that group of people – no diversity whatsoever….
Next time I am in Smithfield I will check the mural out.
