
SMITHFIELD – The Black History Committee of the Johnston County Heritage Commission will host a screening and panel discussion of the PBS documentary, “FAT BOY: The Billy Stewart Story,” at the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield on Thursday, February 27, at 6:30 pm.
Stewart, a nationally acclaimed rhythm and blues musician from the Washington, DC area, and three of his band members died in an automobile accident near Smithfield in 1970.
Beverly Lindsay-Johnson, producer of the documentary, will be joined by Stewart’s cousin Dane Riley and former band member Charles Stafford, to speak about Stewart’s legacy and answer questions from the audience.

The program is sponsored in part by the Johnston County Arts Council. It is free to the public, and refreshments will be served.
