High Speed Chase Ends With Crash

KENLY – No injuries were reported following a high speed chase. It started around 1:50am Thursday, May 2nd. Kenly Police attempted to stop the driver of a Dodge Charger wanted in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation.

The vehicle failed to stop and following a brief pursuit Kenly Police lost sight of the car. Moments later, a Johnston County deputy sheriff spotted the vehicle on Princeton-Kenly Road and attempted to pull it over. The driver once again failed to stop and quickly reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

The chase continued through eastern Johnston County and western Wayne County before the fleeing driver wrecked on NC 581.

Robert Lee Edwards Jr., 22, of Stone Park Road, Bailey faces multiple charges from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office including fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, reckless driving to endanger, driving on a revoked license, and failure to stop for a stop sign. Kenly Police charged Edwards with larceny of a motor vehicle.

  1. Too bad when Robert Edwards Jr. crashed, he did not have the loss of limbs so he could not run again. To do speed up too and over 100 mph if he wanted to kill himself, that’s his business but he could have killed a civilian or a Deputy and gosh knows we have lost to many LEO’s last weeks in Charlette. I am just glad that no innocent civilians or LEO’s were injured and as far as Robert Edwards Jr. goes, I could not care less what could have happened to him.
