SELMA – A violent collision shut down a busy Johnston County roadway for several hours today. The accident happened at 11:30am at the intersection of Highway 39 and Old Beulah Road near Selma.
Initial reports indicate the driver of an SUV failed to stop for a stop sign on Old Beulah Road and was struck in the side by a tractor trailer traveling southbound on Highway 39. The driver of the SUV was pinned in his vehicle and had to be extricated by first responders. The driver of the tractor trailer sustained minor injuries.
Flying debris from the crash damaged at least four cars at Rayz Car Lot. A vehicle and carport next door to the car lot was also damaged.
The intersection was shut down for several hours while cleanup took place including work by the NC DOT and an environmental cleanup company.
The State Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
