CLAYTON – Thursday evening, workers began painting new lines and shifting traffic in the area of the new Highway 42 East bridge across the Neuse River. Changes include a new left turn lane for eastbound traffic turning onto Castleberry Road, a major traffic congestion issue for many drivers.
The shift in traffic patterns are only temporary while crews demolish the old 1939 era Neuse River Bridge, complete work on the new five-lane bridge and finish widening Highway 42 East from Glen Laurel Road to Buffalo Road.
Motorists should drive cautiously through the busy construction zone. Construction will be completed in 2022.
