Smithfield Woman Identified As Driver Killed In US 70 Collision

Update 8:25am – The Highway Patrol has identified the driver of the Cadillac SUV who died in the collision as 55 year-old Lisa Hamilton of Smithfield.

PRINCETON – A section of Highway 70 in Johnston County was closed late-Wednesday following a fatal collision.

Troopers said a woman driving a Cadillac SUV died at the scene when she pulled into the path of an eastbound Nissan passenger car at the intersection of Highway 70 and Dr. Donnie H. Jones Boulevard in Princeton.

The Nissan driver was transported to Wake Med with serious injuries.

The Princeton Fire Department and Princeton Police Department diverted all eastbound traffic through the town then back onto Highway 70 to avoid the accident scene. The roadway was reopened just over an hour later.

The NC Highway Patrol is still investigating the collision.
