Highway Patrol Searching For Hit And Run Driver Involved In Serious Collision

This white Acura was involved in a serious hit and run accident Saturday night on Old Fairground Road. The driver abandoned the vehicle about one-half mile from the scene.

The NC Highway Patrol is searching for the driver of a car involved in a serious collision with a go cart on a rural Johnston County roadway.

It happened around 10:30pm Saturday on Old Fairground Road near Stephenson Road in the West Johnston community.

Troopers said a white Acura RL sedan was traveling north on Old Fairground Road and swerved to avoid a racing-style go cart, that was improperly operating on the highway.

The Acura and go cart collided in the roadway. After the impact, the Acura ran off the road and struck a ditch.

The operator of the go cart was ejected in the roadway.

This racing-style go cart was traveling on Old Fairground Road near Stephenson Road around 10:30pm Saturday when it collided with a white Acura RL sedan. The driver of the go cart was ejected onto the roadway and seriously injured.

The driver of the white Acura left the scene, driving north on Old Fairground Road. The car was abandon about a half mile from the scene and the driver fled on foot.

Old Fairground Road does not have any roadway lighting and the go cart was not equipped with any headlights, taillights or reflectors, troopers said.

The operator of the go cart was transported to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh with serious injuries. Troopers did not release the name of the operator.
