Highway Patrol Searching For Hit And Run Driver

The NC Highway Patrol is searching for a driver involved in a hit and run accident.

Around 3:30am Sunday, the driver of an SUV ran off Cleveland Road and struck a utility pole in front of the new Health Smart Pharmacy at 9197 Cleveland Road next to Food Lion.

The driver of the SUV is shown on security video exiting his wrecked SUV, surveying the vehicle, then leaving in the heavily damaged vehicle a few minutes later.

The driver is a white male wearing an olive color jacket, khaki pants and dark color Nike tennis shoes. The vehicle appears to be a teal color 2002-2004 Honda Pilot with heavy front end damage. The airbags on the vehicle also deployed.

A gold Chevy S-10 pickup pulls up to the crash and the passenger door opens but then pulls out of sight of the camera.

Anyone who recognizes the vehicle or driver is asked to contact First Sgt. D.L. Mobley with the NC Highway Patrol Smithfield District Office at 919-934-2186. Callers can remain anonymous.

Story corrected to update vehicle description from a Chevy Traverse or Equinox to a Honda Pilot.
