Hit And Run Driver Strikes Child Near Bus Stop

The NC Highway Patrol is asking for assistance locating the driver of a Jeep wanted for a hit and run accident.

Troopers say a black Jeep Wrangler, like this one, struck a 12 year-old girl Thursday morning near her bus stop but didn’t stop. Officers are trying to locate the hit and run vehicle and its driver.

Around 7:05am Thursday, a 12 year-old girl was walking to her bus stop in the Cleveland Springs subdivision off Cleveland Road.  Troopers said the young girl was walking on the right edge of Outwater Ridge Drive when she was struck in the arm by the passing vehicle.  The vehicle was described as a black Jeep Wrangler.

The vehicle did not stop or slow down to check on the girl.

Troopers believe the vehicle may belong to a resident in or near the subdivision.

If anyone has any information about the hit and run accident including the whereabouts of the vehicle, you are asked to contact Senior Trooper J. Dolin at the Highway Patrol Smithfield District Office at 919-934-2186 or the Raleigh Communication Center at 919-733-3861. Callers can remain anonymous.

The Highway Patrol tells us the young girl’s injuries are not serious but they do want to locate the driver who struck her and never stopped.
