KENLY – The State Highway Patrol has located and charged a 19 year-old suspect in connection with a serious hit and run accident in Johnston County.
Steven Teodoror Rodriguez of Kenly was arrested Wednesday afternoon by state troopers. Rodriguez is charged with felony hit and run with injury, no operator’s license, expired registration, no inspection, and no insurance.
Around 8:00pm Tuesday, a man traveling south on Interstate 95 near Kenly swerved his Honda Civic to avoid tire debris in the roadway. He lost control of his car, which overturned and ended on its roof between the interstate and the parallel Old Route 22.
The victim was uninjured in the first crash and was standing beside his overturned Honda. Troopers said that’s when Steven Rodriguez reportedly drove by the wreck striking the pedestrian and fleeing the scene.
The victim was seriously injured and rushed to Wake Med. At last report the man was in stable condition. His name has not been released pending completion of an accident report.
Rodriguez was held under a $30,000 secured bond at the Johnston County Jail. At last check Thursday, he was still incarcerated.
