Holt’s Lake Drowning Victim Identified

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday for a Smithfield man who drowned Friday afternoon at Holt’s Lake in Smithfield.

Lewis L. “LL” Thomas Jr., 73, was among four people fishing in two boats in Holt’s Lake.  Around 3:15pm, one of the boats got too close to the dam spillway and became lodged.  Thomas was attempting to free the boat when the current swept him under the water.  Efforts to save his life were not successful.

Thomas was a Vietnam War veteran having served in the US Air Force.  He worked for many years with Rain and Hail Insurance, according to his obituary.  He enjoyed fishing, wildlife at the lake and serving the Lord.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday at 11:00am in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. Burial with military honors will follow at Selma Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
