Homeowner Fires Shotgun At Burglary Suspects

A disabled man said he fired a gun towards two suspects after they broke into his home Friday night.  The incident happened around 8:00pm Dec. 23rd at a home on Highway 70 Business about 2-1/2 miles west of Smithfield.

The 64 year-old victim said he heard a car pull into his driveway and moments later someone began knocking on his door. The man said he wasn’t expecting anyone so he didn’t answer. The person then left in the car.

About 45 minutes later, the same person returned and this time forced open the front door.  The victim was in a back room and heard the suspect say “Ain’t nobody here.”

The victim then confronted the suspect and shouted, “The f*** I ain’t” as the intruders turned and fled.  As the suspects were fleeing in a white two door passenger car, the victim fired his shotgun towards their vehicle.

Johnston County Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said there is no evidence indicating the gunshot struck the suspect’s vehicle.  The victim said one suspect was a tall, skinny male wearing a hoodie. The victim was not harmed.
