Murray Dees, Hospice Social Worker with the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield was a guest on WTSB Radio on May 7th.

Dees was interviewed by Liz Thurston, Physician Liaison with Johnston Health. The topic was an upcoming June 13thprogram called “Camp Courage” for children and teens ages six through sixteen. Ms. Dees told WTSB listeners that this will be the second year for the one-day camp, located at Camp Mary Atkinson on Highway 42.

To qualify, participants in the camp should have experienced some “great” loss in their young lives. Counselors and social workers volunteer their time to work with the children/teens to help them cope with their grief and also enable them to have fun. There is no charge for “Camp Courage.”

Any child who is interested in participating can be registered at Johnstonhealth.org or relatives can call 919-209-5104. Anyone wishing to contribute funds to help purchase supplies for the event can also call the same number. Last year, the first year of the camp, there were 25 participants.
