2017 is off to a strong start for the building industry in Johnston County.
In January, the Johnston County Inspections Department issued permits for 135 new single family homes, up substantially from 89 issued in January 2016. The average value of the new construction homes was $166,546.74.
Manufactured housing permits which were flat in 2016 increased last month. A total of 10 doublewide permits were issued up from 5 a year earlier. And 11 singlewide permits were issued up from 4 from Jan. 2016.
Permits were also issued last month for two commercial apartment buildings valued at $1.5 million.
County inspectors passed 3,485 inspections and failed 894. The office collected $230,293.84 in fees last month up from $201,571.60 in January of the previous year.
