SMITHFIELD – The annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day was a big success this past weekend.
Staff from the Johnston County Public Utilities Department’s Solid Waste Division helped unload hazardous materials from 137 vehicles at the Aug. 26 event.
Residents were able to drop off items ranging from fluorescent bulbs to pesticides and herbicides at the convenient drive-thru set up at the Johnston County Livestock Arena.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program, and N.C. Department of Agriculture Cooperative Extension were also on site to help assist the public throughout the day.
