How Do You Cook A Turkey? We Asked Local Elementary School Students

With the assistance of Johnston County Public Schools, JoCoReport recently asked kindergarten and first grade students how they would prepare a turkey for their family on Thanksgiving.  Here are their responses:

“You have to take it home and do not let it run away, then put it in the oven and then take off the head so you can eat it too and cook it.”

“So if you are at the store and you buy a turkey and then you put it in the oven and then after it is cooked, you let it cool off and then you serve it with the food.”

“First me and my dad go hunting for a turkey. Then we put it on the grill. After that we put salt inside of it and pepper on the outside of it. Then I put steak sauce on it because I really like steak sauce. Then we put really yummy stuff on it.”

“Go get the turkey from Food Lion. I use markers and cotton balls and I cook the turkey rare. I use salt to cook it.”

“I would take some stuffing and stuff the turkey.  Next I would cook it on the stove.  Last I will put some berries and grind them up and make some kind of sauce and smear it on the turkey!  Then I would eat it!”

“I would cut the turkey and put it in the oven on 6 degrees. Keep in the oven for 4 minutes. Take it out of the oven and put it in the fridge for 10 minutes to cool down. Then we would eat it.”

“I would get the turkey and pluck the feathers off. Then I would get the hair off. Then put it in the oven on 6 degrees for about maybe 10 minutes and then eat it.”
