Husband Charged In Wife’s Murder

A Fremont man is accused of murdering his wife.  Friday afternoon, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office announced an arrest in the homicide of 55 year-old Janet Marie Batts.

56 year-old Timmie Lane Batts was charged with murder and confined in the Wayne County Detention Center without bond.

Last Friday, March 15th, deputies responded to the couple’s home at 105 R&M Circle in Fremont and found Janet Batts deceased.  An autopsy was performed on Tuesday. A coroner ruled that Mrs. Batts died from blunt force trauma to the head.  Authorities did not disclose what type of weapon may have been used or if it had been recovered.

Timmie Batts was arrested without incident.

Wayne County Sheriff Larry Pierce thanked the family, neighbors and friends that came forward to assist with the investigation. Sheriff Pierce also thanked his detectives for the long hours they spent working on the case.

According to a press release, the murder investigation is still ongoing and more information will be released at a later date.
