A stolen vehicle possibly involved in a Sampson County missing person investigation was involved in a three-county chase Wednesday afternoon. Around 12:15pm, Four Oaks Police attempted to stop a stolen 2003 Ford Excursion on Highway 301. The SUV failed to pull over.
Joined by Johnston County deputies, Four Oaks Police pursued the stolen vehicle on Highway 701 through southern Johnston County and into Newton Grove in Sampson County. The chase continued onto Highway 50 back into Johnston County, to Highway 96 South in the Meadow community, and then I-40 westbound.
The fleeing driver avoided stop sticks on US701 and I-40 in Johnston County. while reaching speeds in excess of 90mph.
Troopers were able to deploy stop sticks once the chase entered Wake County near Garner and were successful in deflating the tires on the SUV ending the pursuit. Authorities confirmed Carl Earl Andre Wiggins was the driver who led officers on the three-county chase.
On Tuesday, the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said felony warrants had been obtained for Carl Wiggins for larceny and possession of a stolen motor vehicle for the theft of the SUV in Bladen County. Wiggins was also wanted for questioning in the disappearance of his wife, 39 year-old Kiara Renee Wiggins of Roseboro who was reported missing by her family on June 18th. She was last seen on June 9th.
