Update: Victim Killed In I-40 Crash Identified

Update 7:15PM – The victim killed has been identified as 27 year-old Angela Marie Leach of Fayetteville. She was a front seat passenger in a car that crossed the median and struck a semi . Her husband, the driver, was seriously injured. A 7 year-old child in the back seat was critically injured

CLEVELAND – One person was killed and two others seriously injured in a violent five vehicle collision on Interstate 40 in Johnston County this morning (Friday).  The wreck involved four tractor trailers and one passenger car.

It happened around 9:00AM in the eastbound lanes of I-40 at the 312 mile marker near Highway 42. Troopers said the individual killed and the two seriously injured were in the passenger car.

Traffic was detoured around the accident scene for several hours before I-40 was reopened Friday afternoon.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the NC Highway Patrol.
