I-40 Rest Area Attendant Stabbed By Co-Worker, JCSO Says

BENSON – A disturbance at the Interstate 40 Rest Area reportedly involved two rest area attendants.

On April 16 around 2:29pm, law enforcement officers responded to a reported stabbing at the rest area near Benson.

Johnston County deputies said Herbert Lee Kearney, age 58, of Raleigh stabbed a 54 year-old co-worker in the facial area with a knife during an altercation. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening wound.

The victim reportedly fired a 9mm handgun in self-defense but no one was struck.

Kearney was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

The handgun used by the victim and knife used by the suspect was seized as evidence in the case.

    • This was my husband who got stabbed.This man stabbed him 5 times! They are definitely life-threatening.

    • It is a rest area u never know what might happen to you there especially if u are working at night. No worse than having mace on your key chain “at work “ 😂😂

  2. Glad he had his weapon on him to protect himself . It is a highway rest area and they arrested him could have turned out worse.

  3. This guy that stabbed my husband is monster!The footage tells all.My husband just tried to work and turned his back and boom this guy stabbed him.
