SMITHFIELD – Members of the Smithfield Town Council unanimously approved a rezoning request for a 42.1 acre tract of land in West Smithfield. The parcel is at the intersection of US Highway 70 West (West Market Street) at Barbour Road and is in the Smithfield Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ).
Ann Wood and Sue Warrick of Clayton received approval in June to rezone the property from Residential and Agriculture to Light Industrial.
Planning Director Stephen Wensman said there is no current proposed industrial use for the property but indicated there has been interest in the site, which is in close proximity to the new Amazon distribution warehouse currently under construction.
