Inmate Dies In Sampson County Jail

The NC State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of an inmate.  The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said detention staff were alerted Thursday by other inmates to an inmate suffering an unknown medical emergency at the Sampson County Detention Center.  Detention Staff rushed to the inmate’s aide and discovered the inmate was unconscious and not breathing.  Staff immediately began CPR and used a defibrillator.

EMS personnel responded and continued CPR efforts. Despite efforts of all the first responders, they were unsuccessful in reviving the inmate, identified as 48 year-old Jamie Beach of Roseboro.

As standard procedure, with the death of any inmate in custody, the NC SBI responded to the scene to conduct an independent investigation.
