A 32 year-old male inmate was found dead Thursday in the Franklin County Jail.
Detention officers were conducting a check on inmates at 5:30am when they discovered one inmate deceased. There was no signs of foul play or suspicious activity.
“The Sheriff’s Office is saddened at the loss of life and extends their condolences to the individual’s family,” Sheriff Ken Winstead said in a news release.
As standard procedure, the NC State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the death.
