Interstate 95 Reopens Following Multi-Car Crash

A section of Interstate 95 in Johnston County was briefly shut down this morning (Wednesday) following a multi-vehicle accident.  The collision occurred just north of the Keen Road Exit near the 87 mile marker in Four Oaks.

According to the State Highway Patrol, a passenger car was traveling northbound at a high rate and speed when the driver lost control and traveled into the median. The car went through the median cable and into the southbound lanes collided with a pickup truck towing a boat.  Three other cars wrecked while trying to avoid the initial collision.  The boat became dislodged from the trailer and landed on the interstate. Three people were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

Southbound traffic backed up for several miles before both lanes could be reopened.

The names of those involved and the cause of the crash has not been released.

The Four Oaks Fire Department, Four Oaks EMS, Johnston County EMS and State Highway Patrol responded.
