April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Cold Case Sexual Assault Unit are working to solve several cold case investigations.
On September 25th, 1992 around 10:30 pm a woman was working at the Lafayette Memorial Cemetery Office at 2301 Ramsey Street. Three unknown black male suspects approached the victim, violently assaulted her and placed her in the trunk of her own car.
The suspects drove her to a wooded area in Harnett County near Dunn where they brutally raped and beat the victim, leaving her at that location for dead.
The suspects then drove the victim’s car back to the cemetery; spray painted “3 Horsemen” on the hood of the victim’s car and tried to drive it into the pond.
The victim did survive this ordeal and was able to make it to a location where she was able to receive help and call 911.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to come forward. Anyone with information concerning this sexual assault investigation is asked to contact Detective J. Benazzi with the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-257-3668 or Crimestoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477). You can also submit information to Crimestoppers by text-a-tip on your mobile device by sending a message to 274637 (in the text box type “4Tip” followed by your message).
